Test Review: Comprehensive Test of Nonverbal Intelligence (CTONI-2). The Comprehensive Test of Nonverbal Intelligence (CTONI) is PRO-ED’s new, unbiased test that measures nonverbal reasoning abilities of individuals for whom most other mental ability tests are either inappropriate or biased. The CTONI measures analogical reasoning, categorical classifications, and sequential reasoning in two different contexts. Additionally, the CTONI-2 Manual refers to the Geometric and Pictorial dimensions as “contexts in which the abilities are measured” (Hammill et al., 2009b, p. 3), and unique aspects of the CTONI-2 subtests (e.g., analogies, categories, and sequences) as reflecting higher-order cognitive abilities.

Results are reported as standard scores, percentile ranks, and age equivalents. The CTONI-2 was normed on a large (2827) representative national sample that was stratified by age. The reliability coefficients of its composite are in the .90s with a few in the high .80s. It correlates with most well-known intelligence tests in the high .70s. New oral instructions for common non-English languages in the United States have been provided.
