- The rifle has matching serial numbers, except for the barrel band, trigger guard plate and the buttstock sling swivel (the matching serial numbers are stamped on the receiver, barrel, buttplate, bolt body, bolt head, bolt cocking piece, safety lever, front sight and rear sight). All the parts of the bolt display matching serial numbers.

Remingtons manufactured after 1921
have a code located on the left side of the barrel
near the frame that identifies the year and month of
manufacture. The following letters correspond to the
months of the year, for example B=January, L= February
and so on:

Serial Numbers by date (factory record book)
Sweden adopted a Mauser carbine in 1894 and a Mauser rifle in 1896, both chambered for the 6.5x55 cartridge. Also in 1896, Germany experimented with Mausers of various calibers. The Mauser Modelo 1908 long rifle became the standard infantry rifle for the Brazilian Army in 1908. The rifles were produced by DWM, then owned by the Ludwig Loewe Company. DWM, in turn contracted some rifles out to Mauser Oberndorf, which was also owned by Loewe at the time.

Using barrel codes (such as those listed above) to date the manufacture are reliable on Remington rifles, as the company rarely changed barrels on a customer’s rifle.
Using these barrel codes to date a shotgun is somewhat unreliable, as shotgun barrels are often interchanged at random. One needs to be sure that the barrel is original to the gun before trusting the Barrel Code listing, above.
